Sherlock Holmes and Dr。 John Watson have been two of my favorite characters for a long time。 When I saw the chance to get nearly the entire original collection in one audiobook with the same narrator, I jumped at the chance。 I was not disappointed by the quality nor the narration。 The only disappointment I had was that, though it’s called a collection, it is missing the last collection of short stories, The Casebook of Sherlock Holmes, but other than that? It was amazing。 Stephen Fry’s notes about his own relationship with the series are fascinating。 His insights into the various books and collections are unique and entertaining。 But his narration takes the cake。 His Holmes is aloof and above-it-all, his Watson is engaging and delightful, and all other characters are voiced so well that it’s enthralling。 With variety and a few great accents, this is one of the finest audiobooks I have ever come across。 If you love the Sherlock Holmes books, this is one collection you don’t want to be without。 Missing only the final book written by Doyle, this is over sixty hours of Holmes and Watson being their amazing selves, and with fantastic narration to boot。 From their meeting in A Study in Scarlet to Holmes’s last case for the country of England in His Last Bow, this encompasses the lives of two men who battled crime in the streets of London and became the best of friends and the greatest duo in the history of literature。 。。。more

I really love murder mysteries and Conan Doyle is one of the best in the area。 The way Sherlock is written and how he makes deductions is mind-blowing。 I like how they put an alternative story that is not John’s point of view in ¨a study in scarlet¨

Good Reading for Entertainment and for an Insight into the PeriodSome of the stories, such as The Hound of Baskerville, were highly entertaining。 Equally entertaining were the quaint manners and customs of the period, with cabs and telegraph's, and gentlemen and riffraff。 Good Reading for Entertainment and for an Insight into the PeriodSome of the stories, such as The Hound of Baskerville, were highly entertaining。 Equally entertaining were the quaint manners and customs of the period, with cabs and telegraph's, and gentlemen and riffraff。 。。。more

Thank you kindly, Mr。 Holmes。 You saved me from plenty a sleepless night。 Although never boring, the stories always brought a sense of calm adventure to my mind。 It is with great pleasure, and sadness, that I lay you aside — for now。I feel like I couldn’t be far away from Dr。 Watson。

Not my first time to read all the Holmes canon but the first time to have read it on kindle。 Still great [not perfect, but what book of human origin is?]。

I wished to give 10 out of 5 as my rating any day。This is not the first time I have read the Sherlock Holmes stories。 It all started when I was a child, reading some abridged versions, continued during my school days as text books, later in various translations in my native Bengali language and the memorable role played by Jeremy Brett in TV series。 Also read indirect adaptations in Bengali detective stories by various authors。 I am certain that any human being who has some licking for detective I wished to give 10 out of 5 as my rating any day。This is not the first time I have read the Sherlock Holmes stories。 It all started when I was a child, reading some abridged versions, continued during my school days as text books, later in various translations in my native Bengali language and the memorable role played by Jeremy Brett in TV series。 Also read indirect adaptations in Bengali detective stories by various authors。 I am certain that any human being who has some licking for detective stories will have to read at least some stories of Sherlock Holmes。 This volume is the best unabridged version of the stories I have ever read with the original illustrations enlightening my experience greatly。I salute both the author and the character。 。。。more

Essential reading!! For anyone that’s ever watched any detective show or film and doesn’t read Sherlock Holmes, is doing themselves a disservice!! Columbo, Jessica fletcher, CSI, Reacher to name a well known few all owe their work to the genius of ACD and SH!

This was absolutely splendid to read, along with the 1965's TV show。 For me, that will only and ever be "Sherlock Holmes"! (None of this new and fancy stuff。) A lot of people seem to think Sherlock is boring and dull, however, once you get used to the reading style (Which isn't quite that hard to read, compared to many other outrageously worded old books) it's actually quite exhilarating, and the mysteries are extremely hard to solve, yet you come to that perfect point at the end where you slap This was absolutely splendid to read, along with the 1965's TV show。 For me, that will only and ever be "Sherlock Holmes"! How could I have not noticed?"。Cheers to Sir Arthur Conan Doyle for a timeless classic that will always be top of the shelf in life。 。。。more

While I enjoyed getting the original story to so iconic a character, I was put off by a lot of blatant racism and sexism。 The only reason I don’t rate it lower, is that I know that I am regarding an old story with a modern mind。 Still, the knowledge that middle class Victorian white men were extremely racist and sexist doesn’t make it okay。 On a more positive note, it was fascinating to see the moments our modern retellings were inspired from, and the unique twists we have made to these old stor While I enjoyed getting the original story to so iconic a character, I was put off by a lot of blatant racism and sexism。 The only reason I don’t rate it lower, is that I know that I am regarding an old story with a modern mind。 Still, the knowledge that middle class Victorian white men were extremely racist and sexist doesn’t make it okay。 On a more positive note, it was fascinating to see the moments our modern retellings were inspired from, and the unique twists we have made to these old stories。 I’d recommend it to anyone with a love for Sherlock and Watson and the classics, but caution anyone who picks it up to be prepared for a lot of script that would’ve never been published under today’s standards。 。。。more

Full disclosure I DNF’d this book at 85%, so I didn’t actually finish it。 But it’s nearly 1800 pages and I didn’t want it not to count for my total book/page count so, yeah, I lied and added it to my Read pile。 This was the most boring thing I’ve ever read and I’m only giving it two stars instead of one because it’s written well and there was nothing, like, offensive in it (as in, the plots were fine, the grammar and spelling were fine, etc)。 So yeah, I quit at 85% but I’m saying I read it, stil Full disclosure I DNF’d this book at 85%, so I didn’t actually finish it。 But it’s nearly 1800 pages and I didn’t want it not to count for my total book/page count so, yeah, I lied and added it to my Read pile。 This was the most boring thing I’ve ever read and I’m only giving it two stars instead of one because it’s written well and there was nothing, like, offensive in it (as in, the plots were fine, the grammar and spelling were fine, etc)。 So yeah, I quit at 85% but I’m saying I read it, still。 Sue me lol。 。。。more

65 Hours overs 8 months。 That is how much time I have dedicated myself to completing the series。 When I read the last story in the Sherlock Holmes collection, I felt the familiar bittersweet nostalgia that often comes with completing a series that I haven't felt in a very long time。 I think what's even sadder is knowing the Arthur Conan Doyle has long since passed so that even though there may be new adaptions of the Sherlock story, there will never be another true Sherlock Holmes adventure writ 65 Hours overs 8 months。 That is how much time I have dedicated myself to completing the series。 When I read the last story in the Sherlock Holmes collection, I felt the familiar bittersweet nostalgia that often comes with completing a series that I haven't felt in a very long time。 I think what's even sadder is knowing the Arthur Conan Doyle has long since passed so that even though there may be new adaptions of the Sherlock story, there will never be another true Sherlock Holmes adventure written again。 I feel especially connected to ACD, who based on my limited understanding of his life, was absolutely brilliant but also believed in fairies and spiritualism。 All this to say, thank you Sherlock Holmes for reigniting my love for fiction。 。。。more

I read The Adventures and The Memoirs。 So much fun。 I see now why this character was so popular back then and has endured until now。 Holmes and Watson are great characters, and the world building is subtle and masterful。 A formula that works over and over。 I stopped while I still had stories left, saving them for a time when I need vacation reading, which they'd be perfect for。 Took me forever to get to Holmes, but I'm glad I finally did。 I read The Adventures and The Memoirs。 So much fun。 I see now why this character was so popular back then and has endured until now。 Holmes and Watson are great characters, and the world building is subtle and masterful。 A formula that works over and over。 I stopped while I still had stories left, saving them for a time when I need vacation reading, which they'd be perfect for。 Took me forever to get to Holmes, but I'm glad I finally did。 。。。more
